Places I would Like to go

As part of my course at the Catch 22 academy, I will have the opportunity to do a work placement at a well established media outlet.

From the vast list of Catch 22 partner organisations, there were three that were of particular interest to me.

Trinity Mirror
Trinity Mirror is one of the UK's largest publishers, with 5 national newspapers including The Mirror, The People and 150 regional newspapers.

I would like to work on one of their national papers, covering football and other sports.

Recent News

Recently former Trinity Mirror regional managing director Steve Brown was named as the new boss of Johnston Press's operations in the North of England.

Associated Newspapers

Associated Newspapers is one of the UK’s largest publishers of national newspapers and consumer websites. It is a subsidiary of Daily Mail and General Trust.

Their main publications are The Daily Mail, Sunday Mail and Metro newspapers.

It would be intriguing to work on any of the main publications, again I would like to cover football.

Recent News

ITN signed a new content deal to supply daily video clips to the website of Associated Newspaper’s national free newspaper Metro.

Centaur

Centaur is a business to business publisher. It encompasses a vast range of magazines and websites, including Marketing Week and New Media Age.

I would like to work for New Media Age because I like its informative nature . I'm also really interested in the future of interactive media in the UK.

Recent News

On Friday 28th May, Centaur acquired the company Taxbriefs Holdings Ltd (Taxbriefs) for a consideration of £1.9 million, payable in cash.

30 Seconds in the mind of Aaron-Spencer

Aaron's favourite things - website, twitter, tune, youtube clip.

Aaron-Spencer Charles is currently enrolled on the Catch 22 course. He recently turned 21 and is from Mitcham.

Q &A

If you could be a fictional character who would you be?
I would be Blade because he is the ultimate hero. I'm also interested in the vampire culture... and he's black.

Tell me a moment that would be in a highlight reel of your life?
Getting a work experience placement at Current TV. I was eager to work for them and I felt like I achieved something.

What is one of the biggest mistakes you have made?
There was this girl I liked, she was Morrocan. She was the most attractive girl in college. I knew she liked me but I lacked the confidence to pursue it.

A moment of luck?
I was going on holiday once when I realised I had forgotten my bag in the taxi. This bag had all the important stuff in it, if I had lost it then my holiday would have been ruined.

Anyway, I turned around and realised there was a huge traffic jam, which enabled me to find the taxi and get my bag.

Marry, F*?k or Kill - Whoopi Goldberg, Pat Butcher, Margaret Thatcher

I would marry Whoopi Goldberg because I liked The Colour Purple. I would F*?k Pat because she was hot when she was younger. I would kill Maggie because I don't agree with her politics.

My Catch

It takes me an hour to get here on a good day

A few weeks into my time at Catch 22 and things are going well. I like the tutors, the other students. My  attendance has been good so hopefully I'll get my £50 back.

In terms of work I feel comfortable with my performance, I want to kick on now and improve my writing.

I'm currently doing my feature, which is the main event. I'm looking for anyone who feels shunned by their community as a result of their occupation, religion etc.

Hopefully my article will make it into the mag, Summer issue was good, the next will be better.

I've joined twitter recently which is a plus. A whole new world opened up for me, I look forward to following Stephen Fry and 50 cent.

Outside of the course, my view of Tottenham has been expanded. I now realise that not all of it is bad, nice Tesco, lovely arts centre, shame about the football team.

Tottenham's Greatest Supporter

Things I've noticed at Catch 22

Nice Mac computers

No board wipes
Woman that plays her music loudly
People waiting for the lift instead of walking upstairs

                                                                                     Top notch security

Make sure to come back next week when I'll be telling you more things I've noticed.

Man Utd vs West Ham, Chelsea vs Stoke, Blackburn vs Arsenal, Sunderland vs Man City, Liverpool vs West Brom and a Review of the other Weekend Fixtures

With Man City losing to Sunderland with a last minute penalty from Bent and Tottenham losing yesterday to Wigan at home, the premiership again proves that the step up to title challengers is a big one.

The key is consistency, the big boys of Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal understand this. It's one thing for Man City to be up for a home match against Liverpool but if you don't show the same intensity against Sunderland, you're likely to come up short.

The same thing goes for Tottenham Hotspur, 'big' European tie midweek, a loss to Wigan on the weekend. This weekend proves that the premiership will be much of the same, with Tottenham and Man City fighting it out for fourth.

Chelsea continue to look strong, not a great performance but managed to get the three points. Anelka continues to impress in his free role, lets wait and see if he's allowed such a role against better opposition.

Arsenal won a tough away game at Bolton, a game they may have lost last season. Walcott's looking good but I still have reservations about the gk and cb positions.

Manchester United took the three points at home to West Ham in a routine victory. As always Man Utd looked strong at home but I still question whether they have the depth to go all the way.
